Talking Green

I sometimes get questions about the Green terms. Don't forget this is a Green 101 Blog, so I decided to form a mini Glossary with the main Green words.

The ability of a material to be broken down by natural processes (such as microorganisms) and then absorbed by the ecosystem.

Carbon footprint:
A measure of the total amount of carbon dioxide and other emissions that an activity, product, service or lifestyle produces, all of which contribute to global warming.
Refuse created by discarded electronic equipment and components.

Fair Trade
A guarantee that the growers and production laborers involved are provided with equitable pay and safe, healthy working conditions.

Global warming
Like "climate change," refers to a change in global temperatures and weather patterns over time, either due to natural variability or human activity.
These are Products that have been sourced locally and handmade by a local artisan. This is an important part in supporting artists and growth in communities.Less transportation is needed, meaning less pollution to the world and more money going to the artist.

Refers to ingredients grown without the use of chemical herbicides, pesticides, synthetic fertilizers or genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and processed without any harmful chemicals and solvents.
Is the breaking down of the used item into raw materials which are used to make new items
An item with a new-life, where it is used for a different or a new function
Is to use an item again after it has been used. This includes conventional reuse where the item is used again for the same function.
